CHANGE: Improving Access to Education for Girls
People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-governmental and non-profit organization with headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1992, PIN is currently operating in 24 countries across Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe. PIN has been operating in Ethiopia since 2003. PIN Ethiopia currently implements various development and humanitarian interventions across the sectors of food security, nutrition, resilience, environment and livelihoods, water and sanitation, education and skills development, social protection and humanitarian response with annual budget of more than 8.5 million EUR and 230 staff members. PIN is a member of Alliance2015, a strategic network of eight European non-government organisations engaged in humanitarian and development action.
Access to education is limited in Ethiopia, especially for girls in remote rural areas. Numerous cultural, social, and economic barriers stand in the way of girls accessing education and once in education, there are high dropout rates.
People in Need’s CHANGE project seeks to support up to 25,000 girls aged 10-19 to improve their learning outcomes; the project focuses on improving literacy and numeracy.
